Alec has always been interested in cooking since an early age, but has also been intollerant to cheese, and when the time came to choose his higher education (in Italy where he grew up) he chose engineering over the culinary arts purely because of this aversion to cheese. Alec has always been a keen cook however and begun to cook daily since his arrival in London in 1998, He eventually took part in Masterchef UK and though he finished 24th from 18000 or so applicants it gave him the realisation that he should abandon the engineering career to pursue the love of the culinary arts. Since 2012 Alec has had the pleasure to do work experience (ranging from 1 day to 2 weeks) in many kitchens most notably “L’enclume” “Le Gavroche” & “Le Manoir”. In 2013 Alec ran a 20 seat bistro for a period of 4 months (alongside his full time engineering job) where the owners demanded that he take the time to talk to each table after service, the customer feedback bolstered his confidence immensly, giving him the confidence to quit the position of “contract manager/building services expert” and share his time between looking after his young family and catering for private parties and events.

Besides Masterchef, Theo has appeared on BBC Breakfast News, Sky TV and The Food Networks’ The Big Eat with Lisa Faulkner and Matt Tebbut. He’s occassionally spotted on stage at the odd food festival as well. Theo’s YouTube Channel is featured on Womans Own and Best Magazine website. Theo runs a monthly popup restaurant seating 40 people, usually serving 8 courses and when guests can’t get a table he hosts private dining parties at peoples homes. Theo Michaels was born in London, has lived in America for five years and eaten his way through a lot of the globe with a backpack. He is now married with two children and no way will his wife backpack again.
